From start to finish, Lewis made us feel truly looked after. His knowledge and genuine passion shine through every interaction. The ring was delivered seamlessly, and the final result couldn’t be more perfect. Avoid the high street — this experience is second to none.

Daniel G

After losing my engagement ring designed by Lewis 20 years ago, returning to him was an easy choice. He created a beautiful new ring incorporating my late mother’s diamond. The process was a pleasure from start to finish, and the result is perfect.

Lewis was exceptional from the very beginning, explaining every detail clearly and guiding me throughout. He went above and beyond, even sourcing a better diamond when he wasn’t satisfied. Honest, communicative, and incredibly skilled — the result is stunning and durable.

Nicholas G

Lewis recreated my engagement ring beautifully, and the entire process was smooth, personal, and enjoyable. His attention to detail and craftsmanship are exceptional, and the matching wedding ring is just as perfect. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him — or commission another piece.

How much should I spend on an engagement ring?+
The simple answer is to spend what you can comfortably afford. For some people that might be £3,000, while for others it could be £12,000 or more. My view is that there’s no point starting married life in debt because of an engagement ring.
How long does it take to create a bespoke engagement ring?+
This can vary depending on the design. A relatively straightforward ring, such as a solitaire or halo, usually takes around 2–3 weeks. More complex designs that require CAD drawings may take up to six weeks.
What is the difference between a bespoke engagement ring and a ready-made ring?+
When you visit a typical high street jeweller, you’ll usually see ready-made rings that are already in stock. A bespoke ring is different — it’s made specifically for you. We discuss your ideas, review different diamonds and styles, and then create a ring tailored to your exact requirements.
How do I choose the right diamond for an engagement ring?+
No two natural diamonds are ever the same. During our consultation I’ll show you a small selection of loose diamonds based on the shapes you’re interested in. I’ll explain the 4Cs — cut, colour, clarity and carat — and show you the stones under magnification so you can make an informed choice.
What diamond shape is most popular for engagement rings?+
The most popular diamond shape remains the round brilliant cut. Among the fancy shapes, oval diamonds have become particularly popular in recent years because they offer beautiful sparkle and cover the finger well.
Why should I buy an engagement ring from Hatton Garden?+
Hatton Garden has a rich jewellery heritage that stretches back generations. Choosing an engagement ring from such a historic place adds something special to the experience and gives your ring a wonderful story behind it.
Can I design my own engagement ring with Lewis Malka?+
Absolutely — and I encourage it. One of the most enjoyable parts of my work is sitting with clients and understanding exactly what they’re looking for. There are many elements that go into the perfect ring, and exploring those details together is part of the process.
What happens during a consultation with Lewis?+
For many people buying an engagement ring can feel daunting. During our consultation we take time to understand your partner’s style, lifestyle and jewellery preferences. We’ll look at different diamonds, explore design ideas, and guide you through the process step by step. Appointments usually last around an hour, but there’s no rush if you need more time.
Are lab-grown diamonds a good choice for engagement rings?+
In my view, natural diamonds are generally the better choice. Lab-grown diamonds can sometimes appeal to people working with tighter budgets who want a larger stone. However, they do not hold value in the same way natural diamonds do.
Do you offer insurance valuations for engagement rings and jewellery?+
Yes. Every engagement ring I create comes with a valuation for insurance purposes at no additional cost. If you have existing jewellery that requires a formal valuation, I can also provide that service for a small fee.
