Tokyo Nightscapes: Kaleidoscope of mall mirrors reflect Omotesando's multifaced nature
(Mainichi Japan)
Walking along Omotesando Avenue in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward in the cold night rain, I came across an eye-catching sight: an array of angled mirrors at the main entrance to Tokyu Plaza Omotesando's Omokado shopping mall, creating a kaleidoscopic world.
Visitors were speaking in foreign languages, and it was heartwarming to see them taking photos from various angles, perhaps as a memory of their trip.
The facility was completed in 2012. It was previously called "Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku," but this was changed to its current name in April 2024.
A large screen on a nearby building displayed images along with pleasant guitar music. The so-called Ura-Harajuku backstreet area is located nearby, with rows of small stores selling fashion items, food and beverages among other things. One can sense the multifaceted nature of this unique neighborhood.
About five minutes' walk to the west, the scenery changes to a quiet and peaceful area including Meiji Jingu shrine. The time there seemed to flow differently compared to the Roppongi and Shinjuku districts. The character of the neighborhood that I could sense from my leisurely stroll was pleasant.
