Minor rewording in the deletion templates

[edit]

I propose that the two deletion templates, {{Delete}} and {{Speedy}}, drop the mention of the to-be-delated page as one the places, the other being the associated talk page, to discuss the deletions. The latter even mentions the talk page only in brackets. Michael21107 (talk) 02:48, 18 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. Those templates can also be used on talk pages so discussing on the to-be-deleted page or talk page ("as applicable") is correct. --Clump (talk) 13:07, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
What about having matching mentions then? Michael21107 (talk) 15:51, 2 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Propagation of templates

[edit]

I have been making some needed changes to Template:BlueSpiceFooter to make it easier to maintain installation information and other extension information that applies to all BlueSpice extensions. For example, I nested the Template:ExtensionInstallComposer. Whenever I make a change/correction, I don't see it applied immediately on the pages that use the template, no matter how I try to purge the page. Is there a job running that takes care of that or is it in some translation queue and if so, when would I expect to see the latest template changes applied or is there a way to speed this process up? MLRodrigue (talk) 08:07, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

It’s in a queue, which is visible at Special:PageTranslation and is handled by humans (translation administrators), so you can only expect the time to vary a lot depending on how much free time translation administrators have. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:01, 30 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the clarification. I will be watching the special page and contact some translation admin if a template gets "stuck" for a while. MLRodrigue (talk) 07:30, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata item of Project:Support desk

[edit]

Should the Project:Support desk page and various other non-Wikipedia pages really link via Wikidata to various language Wikipedias? Yes, from the Wikipedias it is rare to stumble into here, but users choosing the language selection button here surely expect to see a translation, not the help page of their local Wikipedia. Michael21107 (talk) 17:19, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, maybe we could/should use whatever the method is (?), that is used at d:Wikidata:Project_chat and c:Commons:Village pump, whereby they have the interlanguage-links list header replaced with "In Wikipedia"? But it's not currently being used in m:Wikimedia Forum or f:Wikifunctions:Project chat (i.e. not a global override) so I'm not sure if it's a good method, or an imperfect method; someone would ideally verify that first. –Quiddity (talk) 18:23, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes. We should choose the nearest equivalent and if necessary, make a new Wikidata item. —Justin (koavf)TCM 21:31, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

The user right abusefilter-log-detail

[edit]

I honestly don't think we should restrict it only to administrators, so I would like to propose only one of the following:

  1. Allow all users to view detailed abuse filter log entries, or
  2. Allow autoconfirmed users to view detailed abuse filter log entries (restoring the default behavior configuration)

Thoughts? Codename Noreste (talk) 20:49, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Note that by default the right is granted to sysop only, according to Extension:AbuseFilter#User rights, not to autoconfirmed. I don't think it would be useful for others to view the abuse filter log details... there may be things that should be kept hidden from random people. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 21:19, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
On Wikimedia wikis, it is autoconfirmed by default (config). Tenshi Hinanawi (talk) 15:05, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Inclined to agree with Ciencia Al Poder (although both of us are in the cabal so we would say that, wouldn't we)? I don't see a use case for non-admins working with abuse filters. * Pppery * it has begun 01:29, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Floating table of contents

[edit]

On my wiki, I do not want empty space to the right of the table of contents on a page. On Manual:Table of contents#Floating use of CSS is recommended, and to "See Template:TOC for an example implementation." Section Template:TOC#Changing_the_alignment_of_the_table_of_contents, however, has nothing on CSS but says: "To force the table of contents to float on the left of a page, use the {{tocleft}} template." There is no such template. A template {{TOC left}} exists, but it is not on my wiki (v1.39.17), nor is "tocright". I am confused. Wammes Waggel (talk) 07:04, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and the doc for the {{tocleft}} template states: "Do not use this template to just force word wrap around the TOC, as this is an inappropriate method of achieving this." Wammes Waggel (talk) 07:53, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please ask support questions on the support desk: This page is only for discussing issues related to MediaWiki.org website. (And why not just use the .css mentioned in the first link just before the See Template:TOC... ?) --Clump (talk) 11:10, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
